Blog post will be updated as the event evolves. Stay tuned, ie. reload this page every few minutes please. Newest at the top.
- Fin. Now I’m torn of course between the 8GB iPhone and the 16GB iPod Touch. Hmmm. Sites updated and shops back online an hour after the event ended.
- Stevenson asks “the very hot” (that’s what he said) KT Tunstall to come on stage for a live performance
- Apple site is still as before and store is still down.
- His Geekship thanks everyone working on these products, asking everyone present to stand up and half the audience stands.
- Yikes!! iPhone price tag drops to $399 for 8GB model, feels like they will introduce a 16 GB model, nope, just the price drop.
- Steve’s back on stage, finally, just doing a summary of everything.
- iTunes Stats are more interesting, so here goes as reported at the beginning of the event: 600 million copies of iTunes in use, 95 million TV shows sold, over 3 billion songs sold
- Starbucks chairman is on stage now telling the audience some frightening statistics on Starbucks’ customer enslavement, average of 50 million customers per week, average of 18 return visits per customer per month. Their rollout plans for US are 5800 new stores to open between now and early 2009, starting in NY and Seattle, then LA, San Fran and Chicago in 2008. Was’nt really reading, pease check if interested.
- One more “ONE MORE THING” … Partnership with Starbucks: special button in WiFi iTunes Store that allows to buy the song being played at the moment at the Starbucks shop you’re at. Not sure I’ll ever need that to be honest, but the WiFi store will be accessible for free, not internet but at least something to do while you wait for a friend.
- iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store available from button on home screen of iPod Touch and iPhone, full catalogue, supports preview and purchase but no online download, will be synced via your computer.
- “ONE MORE THING” … Yes!!! iPod Touch is here!!! thinner than iPhone at 8mm, like iPhone without the phone part, with WiFi!!, Safari, pics, videos, music, games, calendar, calc, YouTube, no eMail!; battery-life: 22hrs/audio & 5hrs/video, 8GB for $299 and 16GB for $399, available late September
- “iPod Classic”: now officially called so: thinner, no more 30GB, 80GB for $249 and 160GB!! version for $349, 160GB thinner than current 80GB, new full metal design like Nano, new UI like nano with Coverflow
- Beatles songs are extensively used in the presentation which hints at some sort of annoucement later on.
- Nano: with video, games and coverflow, 2 inch display, 320×240 resolution, battery-life is 24hrs-audio/5hrs-video, new UI, new “fatty” full-metal design, in colors all 8GB for $199: (RED), black, blue, silver (also as 4GB for $149), green
- Shuffle: 1GB, new colors including (RED), lower price tag at $79
- Entire iPod line will be replaced!!!
- His Jobsness demoes the new feature.
- This effectively means that you have to pay again. First the song then to use it as a ringtone.
- Only already purchased songs can be made into ringtones, any 30 second part of the song can be used.
- As expected iTunes will offer ringtone feature at $0.99, new version to come today.
- US Apple Store is down.
